Tuesday, April 26
9:05 p.m. Baltimore police officers found Brandon Allison, a 24-year-old African-American man, lying in the street in the 100 block of North Poppleton Street in West Baltimore two blocks from Martin Luther King Boulevard. Allison was shot in the head after leaving his girlfriend’s house. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and pronounced dead 20 minutes later.
Wednesday, April 27
12:40 a.m. A Maryland state trooper arrived at the scene of an accident at the juncture of I-695 and I-83. He asked the driver, John Blankenship, a 52-year-old Caucasian man from the 4400 block of Laplata Avenue in Medfield, who had hit a parked car, if he was injured in the accident. Blankenship said he wasn’t, but that the officer should take him in because he had killed his wife and sister-in-law and stabbed himself. When Baltimore police arrived at his home they found his wife, Robin Blankenship, a 50-year-old Caucasian woman, and her sister Shirley Crabson, a 47-year-old Caucasian woman, dead. Both women had been stabbed repeatedly. John Blankenship was arrested for the double homicide three days later, after being treated for his self-inflicted wounds at Sinai Hospital. So far, 11 women have been murdered in Baltimore this year.
Friday, April 29
1:03 a.m. Gregory Tucker, a 40-year-old African-American man from Damascus in Montgomery County, was found lying on the sidewalk in the 400 block of South Augusta Street in Irvington. He had been stabbed in the torso. Residents of the Southwest Baltimore neighborhood heard a loud argument, and when they went outside, Tucker was lying in a pool of blood. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Saturday, April 30
1:40 a.m. Henry Trociuk, a 41-year-old Caucasian man, was a block from home at Ditto’s Bar in the 3700 block of Hudson Street in Brewers Hill. A couple entered the bar, but the bartender told them that it was after last call. Trociuk, who was trying to assist the bartender, got into an argument with the man, who then stabbed him several times in the chest. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital but was pronounced dead about half an hour later. Trociuk was the sixth person stabbed to death this year.
Sunday, May 1
2:37 a.m. Police officers found a 40-year-old African-American man in the driver’s seat of his car with the engine running in the 1900 block of West Lombard Street. He had been shot several times in the head. Police are waiting until his family has been notified to release his name.
1:20 p.m. Less than 12 hours later, Mark Jones, a 40-year-old African-American man, was walking in the 2900 block of Greenmount Avenue, a block from Barclay Elementary School. A man approached him and shot him repeatedly in the torso. He was taken to Hopkins Hospital but was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m.
