The man found stabbed at a gas station in the 5300 block of York Road on July 12 has been identified as Gary Shipman, a 28-year-old African-American man. On July 25, Sean Ramseur, a 36-year-old African-American man, was arrested at his home in the 500 block of Sheridan Avenue and charged with Shipman's murder.

Irvin Harris, a 11-year-old African-American boy, disappeared on July 28. He had last been seen with a family friend, Melvin Jones, a 52-year-old African-American man, who is a registered sex offender. At 10:30 p.m. on July 30 police were informed that Harris' body could be found in a wooded area behind a church in the 2900 block of Belair Road across from the Clifton Park Golf Course. Jones was apprehended July 31 at a McDonald's at Howard and Fayette streets and charged with Harris' murder.

A two-decades old death has been added to this year's homicide rolls. On July 31, 1983, the landlord of an apartment building in the 2200 block of East Pratt Street in Butcher's Hill called the police about a foul odor coming from the first-floor apartment. When police entered the apartment, they had to wear gas masks. Inside they found a wooden clothes locker with a mattress propped up against it. Inside the locker was large metal trash can containing the extremely decomposed remains of William Gibson, the 57-year-old Caucasian man who lived in the apartment. His remains were autopsied but the cause of death was listed as undetermined. Twenty-three years later, on Aug. 2, police received an addendum to the autopsy ruling the death a homicide.

There was a police-involved shooting this week. Police were driving in the 600 block of Roundview Road in Cherry Hill on Aug. 4 when they saw what they believed to be a drug deal. A man got on a motor scooter and drove away. The police chased after him. The man got off the scooter and ran down a dirt path toward a dark alley. An officer followed and ended up shooting the man, who has been identified as Ernest Oliver, a 39-year-old African-American man. The incident is still under investigation.

Tuesday, Aug. 1

3:04 a.m. A police officer was driving in the 800 block of Bethune Road in Cherry Hill when he heard gunshots. He got out of his car and found Derron Gaines, a 33-year-old African-American man, lying in the middle of a playground. He had been shot; he died at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center at 3:47 a.m.

5:20 a.m. Two hours later in East Baltimore, Davon Hines, a 19-year-old African-American man, and another man were walking in the 400 block of North Chester Street in Middle East when they were shot. Hines was found lying on the sidewalk by police and was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died at 5:55 a.m. The other man survived.

Thursday, Aug. 3

12:04 a.m. Howard Jones, a 26-year-old African-American man, was found on the sidewalk in the 2600 block of Dulany Street in Mill Hill. He had been shot once in the head and died at Shock Trauma less than an hour later.

8:39 a.m. Later that morning, police discovered a dead man sitting in the driver's seat of a locked 1998 Lexus in the 2600 block of Evergreen Avenue. He had been shot in the head. Shell casings, money, and a plastic bag containing white powder were found at the scene. Police are withholding the victim's name until his family can be notified.

Sunday, Aug. 6

1:38 a.m. A man was found lying in the street in the 2800 block of Edgecombe Circle North in the Parklane neighborhood. He had been shot. There was a large amount of blood but no blood trail suggesting that his body was dumped there. His family has not yet been informed of his death.

10:01 p.m. Gregory Moore, a 40-year-old African-American man, was shot in the 4100 block of Rollins Avenue. He was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he died a half-hour later.
