Wednesday, Aug. 17

1:37 a.m. Tavon Granger, a 20-year-old African-American man, was standing with a group of people at the corner of Pall Mall Road and Loyola Southway near Park Heights when someone pulled out a handgun. Granger saw the gun and ran, but the person chased him, fired, and hit Granger, who fell to the ground. The shooter continued firing as he lay there. Granger was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he died a half-hour later.

5:40 a.m. Four hours later, Dulani Watkins, a 31-year-old African-American man, died at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Watkins had been shot in the neck, side, back, and leg on July 31 at 2:26 a.m., while in the 500 block of North Athol Street near the Edmondson Village Shopping Center in Allendale. He managed to call the police before he lost consciousness. He was taken to Shock Trauma, where he remained until his death.

3:02 a.m. Richard Boroughs, a 25-year-old Caucasian man, was at home with his girlfriend in the 400 block of South Collington Street near the southwest corner of Patterson Park when three men broke into the house and asked Boroughs’ girlfriend for money. She told them there was no money, and the men beat her, shot Boroughs several times, and ransacked the house. Boroughs was pronounced dead at the scene.

2:58 p.m. That afternoon, Harry Johnson, a 34-year-old African-American man, left his mother’s house in the 3000 block of Ascension Street in Cherry Hill. He was walking to his car when a man approached him. The two talked. Johnson answered his cell phone, and the other man pulled out a gun and shot him repeatedly in the head.

10:22 p.m. Later that night, back in Allendale, police officers found Willie Hubbard, a 36-year-old African-American man, lying in the middle of the 3900 block of West Franklin Street. According to police, Hubbard was shot numerous times while trying to locate a drug stash in the dark. He was taken to Shock Trauma, where he died at 10:45 p.m.
