No fake cameras put there to intimate people around when there is systematic injustice, class inequalitywill not help deter it. Lets talk about the roots of poverty, why people end up stealing when you work 2 & 3 jobs trying to make ends meet. More cops on the street and more surveillance is only a bandaid to the real causes that need to be addressed by working people. No cameras downtown where all the money goes? Hmmm...You do the math.
People who work 2 & 3 jobs aren't the ones killing eachother, it's the ones that refuse to work even 1 that are causing the bodies to pile up in the gutters (unless you count drug dealing as a job).
I like how you pulled out the class warfare card so quickly, it those rich bastards (also known as "the man") fault. You're right though, putting cameras where no one is getting murdered every 36 hours will surely help the situation and the scum that shot the 10 year old yesterday wasn't really at fault. He was born into that lifestyle and had no choice but to jump out of his SUV and shoot repeatedly into a group of kids.
If the lack of money and class inequalities are the reasons for all the violence then why are aren't the people in Allegany county (whose residents makes the same as Baltimore residents) gunning each other down in the streets?
Instant of trying to act cute and impress others about symbolic mathmetics, why don't you read about all the murders, the innocent victims and the amount of money found on these "poor", "down-trodden" murderous thugs. Stop making excuses for the scum-bags.

This is exactly what I would like in my neighborhood. I live in Long Island, NY where crime such as gangs, drugs, vandalism, home invasions "especially" is on the rise, not to mention killings. Supposedly I live in a nice neighborhood, so they say. My family's two cars have been vandalized in the last year. Home invasions has become a trend in nearby towns. And this is the reason why I think this is a great idea with the lights and cameras.
I like the following quote in your article:
"I think [the camera is] good," Shionta Williams, 13, says. "I'm not doing anything wrong, so I'm not worried about them."
I woul love to be this little girl's neighbor.
This may not stop crime completely, but hell, it would surely help deter it.
