Murders This Week: 4
Murders This Year: 137

In last week’s Murder Ink, we incorrectly stated the age of murder victim Kevin Carmody. He was 36 years old when he died.

Due to the holiday weekend, this Murder Ink only covers homicides through the morning of July 1.

The man who was shot on June 26 in the 800 block of North Bentalou Street has been identified as Tyrone Williams, a 43-year-old African-American man from West Baltimore. The deaths of several people who were injured earlier this year were declared homicides this week.

On March 8, two people entered Jessie Lee Appliances in the 1900 block of West Pratt Street and asked for Jessie Lee. Lee, a 75-year-old African-American man, identified himself, and one of the suspects tried to rob him. Lee pushed his assailant, who began punching him in the face and body and hit him over the head with an unknown object, lacerating Lee’s face. The suspect stole approximately $800 and then fled. Lee died at Maryland Shock Trauma Center on March 21. On June 28 his death was ruled a homicide due to blunt-force trauma. This is the fifth homicide in the Carrollton Ridge neighborhood this year. Lee is the 13th person 50 or older to be killed this year.

On May 1, police officers were called to the scene of a hit-and-run and found Kurt Fulp, a 20-year-old African-American man, lying in the street in the 1500 block of Presstman Street in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood. Fulp was riding his bike when a car crossed the yellow lines, hit him, and drove away. He died from his injuries at Shock Trauma on May 22 at 12:55 a.m.. His death was ruled a homicide on July 1 because police believe that the driver swerved to intentionally hit Fulp in retaliation for a shooting Fulp was allegedly involved in. This is the seventh murder in Sandtown-Winchester this year.

Friday, June 24

6:56 p.m. Charles Harris, a 43-year-old African-American man, was found unconscious in the 1800 block of East Preston Street in the Broadway East neighborhood. He was taken to Shock Trauma and pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m. the next day. This week, his death was ruled a homicide due to blunt-force trauma to the head.

2:39 a.m. Floyd Harp, a 26-year-old African-American man, got into an argument in the 1900 block of West Lexington Street near Bon Secours Hospital. He went inside a house where someone stuck a gun through the kitchen window and shot him several times. Police found him on the dining-room floor. He was taken to Shock Trauma, underwent surgery, and was listed in critical condition. He was pronounced dead on June 27 at 11:01 p.m.

Monday, June 27

4:37 p.m. A person taking photos in the 1700 block of Boyd Street in Union Square near the H.L. Mencken House saw a body lying on the ground. Samuel Umstead, a 39-year-old Caucasian man from the neighborhood, had been shot. He was taken to Shock Trauma and pronounced dead half an hour later.

Wednesday, June 29

6:40 p.m. Police officers found Michael Guy, a 20-year-old African-American man, lying in the middle of the 2500 block of Lauretta Avenue in West Baltimore. He had been shot repeatedly and was taken to Shock Trauma where he was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.
