Murders this Week: 2
Murders this Year: 92
As summer began last year, a 10-day period brought 16 killings and around 40 people shot, so the start of this year's summer looks comparatively peaceful in Baltimore.
Saturday, June 21
2:12 a.m. The body of Emanuel Johnson, a 28-year-old African-American man, was found by police, lying on the ground in the 100 block of South Monastery Avenue and shot in the head. Paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene, near the New Cathedral Cemetery in West Baltimore's Saint Josephs neighborhood.
1:45 p.m. Police responding to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of Winston Avenue in New Northwood found Connecticut resident Daniel Waldhaus, a 31-year-old described by police as Hispanic, shot in the head inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead by fire-department personnel.
Last week's Murder Ink missed a murder because police did not inform the media that a man who was shot on Thursday afternoon had died on Saturday. We are counting that murder in this week's total.
