Murder Ink 11/2/16: 7 murders this week; 263 murders this year

A one-murder-per-day pace in Baltimore.

The one-murder-per-day pace is back. Last year by this date there were 21 more murders than this year. Police reported eight non-fatal shootings and one gun seizure from a man with a history of arrests for gun violence. There was also a carjacking by a teenager of a vehicle with a baby in it. The teen allegedly abandoned the baby first, then the car, before being caught.

Monday, October 24

12:51 p.m. A 69-year-old African-American woman and her adult son were in their home on the 2200 block of Poplar Grove Street when someone shot them to death. Patricia Ann Mosley and Samuel Jones, a 42-year-old African-American man, were both shot in the head. Firefighters responded to smoke alarms going off in the house and found them both. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene and Mosley was pronounced dead at Shock Trauma. Police have offered a reward for information about the murders.

9:00 p.m. Jamie Christian, a 26-year-old African-American man, was at a gas station on the 3300 block of W. Baltimore Street near his home in the St. Josephs neighborhood when someone shot him multiple times. He died.

Wednesday, October 26

4:28 p.m. Corey Shell, a 43-year-old African-American man, was on the 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue when someone shot him. Police found him there; medics took him to Shock Trauma, where he was pronounced dead. Shell had resided on the unit block of Tameron Place in Rosedale, about 15 miles from where he was shot. He is the ninth person murdered in Upton this year, and the second shot down in that neighborhood in broad daylight.

Friday, October 28

2:02 a.m. A 30-year-old man who police have not yet further identified publicly was stabbed multiple times in the upper body while on the 5100 block of Conant Way in the Parkside neighborhood of Northeast Baltimore. Police say they believe the victim got in an altercation with multiple people, who fled after stabbing him.

Saturday, October 29

1:30 a.m. A 38-year-old man whose name and race police have not yet disclosed was inside a car on the 2800 block of Hilldale Avenue in Park Circle when someone shot him multiple times. Police found him there and an ambulance took him to a hospital, where he died soon after.

Sunday, October 30

3:45 a.m. A 19-year-old man who police have not yet further identified publicly was on the 2400 block of Loyola Northway in the Greenspring neighborhood when someone shot him multiple times in the body. He died.
