Police arrested several shooting suspects this week, waited out and arrested non-violently an armed suspect who barricaded himself in a house, and arrested a murder suspect minutes after he allegedly shot a man to death in Reservoir Hill. Six people were added to the homicide roll. Last year by this date we had 206.
Tuesday, Aug. 9
10:15 p.m. William Henry Jackson III, a 43-year-old African-American man, was found shot in the head inside a 2011 Hyundai parked at the West Side Shopping Center, on the 2400 block of Frederick Avenue. He was taken to a hospital but died some time later. Police say Jackson had resided on the 1700 block of Appleton Street.
Wednesday, Aug. 10
12:10 a.m. Police following the sound of gunfire near the intersection of Whitelock Street and Linden Avenue saw a man hunched over Shawn Horrey, a 51-year-old African-American man, then "witnessed the muzzle flash coming from that area." The shooter then fled on foot. Horrey, of the 3000 block of Gwynns Falls Parkway, was shot in the torso and head. He died. Police radioed a description of the shooting suspect, and other police saw a man fitting that description board an MTA bus on the 900 block of W. North Avenue. They stopped the bus and arrested Cleveland Jones, a 26-year-old African-American man, whose most recent attempted murder charges were dropped by prosecutors on July 15. He beat a murder charge in 2014, and another attempted murder case in 2012, court records indicate. Police said they found a loaded handgun in the 2300 block of Mason Alley.
6:30 a.m. Ricardo Johnson, a 47-year-old African-American man, was found in the back of a minivan parked on the 2200 block of Kloman Street in Westport. He was dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
7:55 p.m. Douglas Allison, a 34-year-old African-American man, was on the 2700 block of Ashland Avenue when he and a 44-year-old woman were shot. Allison was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The woman is expected to survive. Allison had lived on the 800 block of Curley Street.
Friday, Aug. 12
12:25 p.m. Gregory Robinson, a 37-year-old African-American man, was beaten to death on the 1100 block of Walters Avenue in the Glen Oaks neighborhood, after he and another member of his family got into an argument, then a fight, with the suspect. Police found him suffering trauma to the head. Medics took him to a hospital, where he died. Robinson lived on the 3200 block of Doycorn Drive, according to police.
11:54 p.m. Darius Perkins, a 32-year-old man, was shot on the 1300 block of W. Lafayette Avenue in Sandtown-Winchester. Medical staff pronounced him dead soon after at Shock Trauma. His was the sixth murder in Sandtown-Winchester this year. Last year, including Freddie Gray, there were 14.
The man who was killed on Aug. 7 on the 2500 block of E. Madison Street was Carlton Morehead, Jr., a 41-year-old African-American man who had lived on the 4300 block of Orchard Ridge Boulevard.
