Midwives After years of delay, the House of Delegates also gave preliminary approval to a bill that would allow nurse midwives to assist in Maryland home births, a major step forward for the ancient practice of midwifery locally. But, as The Sun points out, Maryland still lags behind more than half of states, which allow "direct entry" midwives (non-nurses) to practice their trade as well.
