Imagine being in the heart of Kenya or Senegal this summer without minding the blazing summer heat around you because of the vast beauty and heritage that these countries hold in their rich histories and resources. Then, take that beautiful experience and couple it with going to an African-American history museum and celebrating all of the contributions that African-Americans have made to society. Then, take those feelings up, roll them up in a ball, add some great food and entertainment, and what do you have? The African American Heritage Festival—no passport needed. This year, it’s all going down at the usual spot—Camden Yards—and the usual suspects will be there: vendors selling beautiful cowrie jewelry, African art and drums, earthen vessels, and colorful kouffi’s (all of which we’re going to stock up on for next year), and star entertainers such as India Arie, Lauryn Hill, Faith Evans, and Baltimore’s own Fertile Ground. It’s going to be the kind of fun you don’t want to miss. But if you do, we’re going to be celebrating your heritage for you, right up in front of the stage.
