Canadian writer/director Claude Jutra's visually precious and dramatically conventional 1971 movie follows 15-year-old Benoit (Jacques Gagnon) in a rural 1940s Quebecois mining town. He works at his uncle Antoine's (Jean Duceppe) general store, where Benoit overhears town gossip, develops an interest in the female breast, and learns those inevitable lessons about sex, class, and betrayal.
