You know, as in the charming old children’s tale wherein Chicken Little tells a succession of animals with rhymey names—Turkey Lurkey, Ducky Lucky, etc.—the sky is falling (’cuz the dumb cluck got boinked on the head by an acorn), and hey, like, “spoiler ahead” for the beloved children’s tale, but they all meet up with Foxy Loxy and it’s Turducken with all the fixins for din-din at her foxhole, dig? Anyway, good times at this kick-ass computerized, ironicified, plausible-deniably de-violentized, and postmodernizizezzed offering for today’s weekend moms and dads who are looking for oh, say, 77 minutes of blessed relief from the energy-vampire attention-deficient chilluns they’re raising. With all the cool stuff going on up on the screen, they didn’t stint on the voices, with Zach Braff, who bloody well fucking is the titular poultry, Joan Cusack as the Ugly Duckling (yeah, different tale, but whatever, it’s Hollywood, man), Garry Marshall (Chicken’s plump and patient dad), and Catherine O’Hara as our fave character, an unintelligible fish who wears a diver’s helmet filled with water. Plus insanely close-close-closeups of the plucky (heh) but ofttimes pathetic li’l Chicken looking all sad and heartbroken are surreally compelling, and we’d totally put down cash right now to see the over-the-top goof movie they run at the end starring the voice of Adam West.
