Just a few minutes ago, Romenesko put up a new post about the Baltimore Sun situation. Apparently the Tribune Co. is planning to cut 40 newsroom employees—20 percent of the newsroom staff—by May 27.

We put a couple of calls into the Sun and the Guild today and are still waiting to hear back from someone. But the Guild issued a press release, which Romenesko has posted, that says that "Tribune Co. is bent on gutting what was once one of America's great newspapers after 40 newsroom employees, or 20 percent of the staff, received layoff notices yesterday."

DCRTV.com, meanwhile, is calling the layoffs a "bloodbath."
