Dan Deacon's follow-up his 2006 grand splash Spiderman Of The Rings now has a release date and an eerie, very cool cover. (Disclosure: said cover was shot by City Paper production staffer Frank Hamilton as a freelance project not affiliated with CP.) The record, Bromst, comes out March 24 on Carpark Records, the label behind Spiderman and a great deal of other Wham City and associated bands. According to Deacon, the record has been in the works for about three years and represents a return to his roots in avant-garde composition. Unlike Spiderman, which was essentially a one-man, purely electronic piece of music, Bromst was recorded entirely live and written to be performed by a 15 person band. The record is a pretty radical departure beyond that. Bromst still has chipmunks, of course, and is generally on the joyous side, but expect it in more in a narrative than the positive assault of Spiderman. "I think of [Bromst] as more of an album," Deacon told me over the weekend. "It carries different; the sum of its parts make it strong. [Spiderman Of The Rings] just wasn't as much of an album as it was a collection of songs."

Carpark was kind enough to leak a track, "Get Older," the album's closer, which is a particularly giddy, cresting high point with a killer marimba section. "Get Older" will also be available on a split 12-inch with Adventure coming out Jan. 27.
