Paintings by Evangeline (through Dec. 2) and photographs by Myers (through Nov. 25). (opening reception 6-8 p.m. Nov. 1)
Most artists would be horrified if somebody shot their paintings, but Margaret Evangeline makes her paintings by shooting them. The openings and abrasions on her brushed stainless-steel panels are made by artist-administered gunshots. This Louisiana-born, New York-based artist thereby produces shimmering steel "paintings" whose surface markings possess a violent beauty. Evangeline's exhibit Too Pure Water also includes videos documenting the loud process of making these works. Also exhibiting is City Paper contributing photographer Christopher Myers, whose show Standing on Two Eyes involves such darkroom explorations as chemically altered negatives and the use of special lens and filters (his "St. Petersburg Passage" pictured).—
