Best Recidivist: State Sen. Nathaniel Oaks

Indicted on federal bribery charges just months after his elevation to the state Senate, Oaks has claimed innocence, despite audio recordings that suggest differently. “Can’t nobody come back and say I got you on tape,” the long-time 41st District delegate tells the FBI’s confidential source, who was, indeed, recording. Oaks is understandably cautious: He was last convicted of criminal charges relating to his job as a public official in 1989, when he received probation for stealing from his own campaign fund.
