Baltimore is lucky to have such a thriving creative scene, and its array of independent theater companies is one of our favorite parts of that. Founded in 2009 and calling themselves “the theater of mischief and subversion,” Iron Crow is the city’s only queer theater company. But what does that mean? It means amplifying the voices of LGBTQ actors and playwrights, yes, but it also means queer in the sense of pushing things beyond the limits of normal, producing visions that are off-kilter, that force audiences to see in new ways, to ask new questions about what it means to watch a show. It’s not easy to put into words what these folks do—that’s part of the “queer”—but it’s always worth seeing.
