It can be a challenge to score a spot at this small new bar/restaurant on the outskirts of Locust Point (seating is limited to the bar, a handful of two-top booths, and a small communal table), but if you do, you’ll be rewarded with great drinks, a super-friendly staff, and killer grub. Owned by chef Jason Ambrose— also owner of Salt—1157 has a casual neighborhood bar vibe but with a modern design and a menu that’s far from your standard pub grub. We’re talkin’ crispy octopus, a chimichurri beef tartar with pickled quail eggs that’s almost too pretty to eat, and stick-to-your-ribs Korean-fried chicken wings. Add in its impressive list of sandwiches (braised short rib melt FTW), a couple of entrees, and a dessert menu that includes an adult milkshake made with Mexican chocolate, mezcal, and cayenne pepper, and it’s well worth the wait.
