Flying Dog's Dead Rise beer has been all the rage this summer. Love it or hate it, the "Old Bay Beer," as some call it, has been a huge success, receiving lots of national press and selling like hot (crab) cakes. While the McCormick spice has created a buzz in the beer world, it's always been more synonymous with food, so it makes perfect sense that the brewery is now coming out with the "Dead Rise Old Bay Cookbook" and is teaming up with Wit & Wisdom to celebrate its release on July 31.

The cookbook, which features 17 Old Bay-based recipes created by local heavy-hitting chefs like Spike Gjerde, Zach Mills, and Bryan Voltaggio, goes for $15 with 100 percent of proceeds going to True Blue, a program that advocates on behalf of the Chesapeake Bay’s watermen and promotes sustainably harvested Maryland Blue Crab - nice move, Flying Dog.

The kickoff party will go down at Wit & Wisdom's waterfront patio from 6-8:30 p.m., and feature food from their kitchen's top dog, Mills, desserts from executive pastry chef Dyan Ng, blues rock from the Ruben Montoya Band, and, of course, lots of beer. The menu, which pairs each dish with a Flying Dog beer, includes Maryland blue crab lettuce wraps, Chesapeake oyster shooters with Old Bay, grilled lamb merguez skewers, and a yet to be determined dessert by Ng. We recommend seeking out the new Bloodline Orange IPA, a seriously delicious brew that's been slightly overlooked amid the hype of Dead Rise.

Tickets, which are $55 per person and include unlimited food and beer samples, are available here.
