Dec. 31: Hold a New Year's Eve Séance for all the 2016 Dead Celebrities

The passage of time ensures that celebrities will die every year, but holy hell, 2016 was a real blower. Prince. David Bowie. Gene Wilder. Sharon Jones. Alan Rickman. Muhammad Ali. Glenn Frey. Leonard Cohen. Phife Dawg. Garry Shandling. Merle Haggard. George Martin. Harper Lee. Arnold Palmer. Abe Vigoda (after years of the status of his demise being something of a running joke). That's just scratching the surface. In the age of social media, mourning the passing of a celebrity has become a public (and somewhat performative) act, but the sheer volume of deaths and the number of iconic figures who have died have made 2016 feel like an especially cursed year and added to the lingering sense of dread that has engulfed it. This New Year's Eve, as we finally rid ourselves of this retched trip around the sun, gather a circle of friends to summon the spirits of our fallen heroes so that we may properly shower them with praise and love. It could be one of the few bright spots in this lousy 365 days. 11:45 p.m. (so as not to miss anyone), someplace quiet, wikihow.com/Conduct-a-Séance. (Brandon Weigel)
