Market Report

If you love asparagus, this is your spring. At least according to the buzz at the Waverly Farmer's Market last Saturday. Ample rain, both last fall and this spring, said several farmers, is responsible for the surfeit of asparagus from the Eastern Shore that's now on sale at the market. Eastern Shore rhubarb is in too. Strawberries are still from Carolina, but look for local fruit (and peas) later in May. And don't forget, the Baltimore Farmers' Market and Bazaar (under the Jones Falls Expressway at Holliday and Saratoga streets) begins this Sunday, May 2 with a new starting time of 7 a.m. The market closes at noon.
