Karma Chameleon Euan Morton, the Scottish singer and actor who originated the role of Boy George in the West End production of Taboo, takes on CenterStage (700 N. Calvert St., [410] 332-0033, centerstage.org) sans the Culture Club Nov. 12-15 as part of the cabaret series.

Speaking of friends of Dorothy, the touring production of The Wizard of Oz touches down at the Lyric Opera House (140 W. Mt Royal Ave., [410] 685-5086, lyricoperahouse.com) Nov. 13-15, with local kids playing the munchkins.

School Plays Students from the Baltimore Lab School, a school for children with learning disabilities, have created a original musical called West Bank Story. It's basically West Side Story set in Israel, with an Israeli border guard as Maria and a Palestinian student as Tony. The students wrote seven original songs for the show and proceeds from the Nov. 12 performance at Load of Fun (120 W. North Ave., [410] 261-5500, loadoffun.net) goes to an organization that promotes Israeli/Palestinian peace.

The latest play in Towson University's contemporary Russian play series runs Nov. 12-14 at Center for the Arts Ruth Marder Theatre, 8000 York Road, Towson, [410] 704-2787). Polar Truth by Yury Klavdiev focuses on a group of young people building a new life after learning they are HIV positive.

Trying Tryouts? If you've been having trouble breaking into the world of musical theater, Michael Tan is holding a workshop at the Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre (817 St. Paul St., [410] 752-1225) from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 14. The seminar, called "Deconstructing the Musical Audition: From the Musical Director's Perspective," will teach would-be Broadway babies how to choose audition songs and prepare a piece for an accompanist, as well as helping them hone their skills. Only six to eight people can attend, so register online at spotlighters.org.

Openings So, um, did you know that Laurence Fishburne wrote a play? Well, he did. It's called Riff Raff and he wrote the drama about drug dealers in eight days. Check it out at Arena Players (801 McCulloh St., [410] 728-6500) Nov. 6-22.

The Playwrights Group brings you The Ladies of Libraryland Nov. 13-21 at Mobtown Theater (3600 Clipper Mill Road, Suite 114). A new branch manager shakes up the lives of two librarians in this show by local playwright Ronda Cooperstein.

Last Chance American Opera Theater's Songspiel hits its high notes for the last time at Theater Project (45 W. Preston St., [410] 539-3091 americanoperatheater.org) Nov. 14. And The Prevalence of Mrs. Seal at Spotlighters disappears into the obscurity from whence it came after a Nov. 15 showing.
