CHEVOLUTION In the summer of 2006 the mammoth Sixties Fashion Exhibit took over a part of London's Victoria and Albert Museum to much fanfare, but an entirely different '60s emblem was also ensconced in the grand Kensington museum. Che Guevara: Revolutionary and Icon directly explored his graphical representation as a countercultural symbol. The exhibition collected Guevara images from films, photographs, posters, fine art, and clothing items from more than 30 different countries to explore the cultural narrative of his image, and it was curated by Trisha Ziff, an England-born, Mexico City-based curator/scholar/filmmaker. Ziff visits UMBC as part of the university's Visiting Artist Lecture Series and the InterArts Series, for which she screens her documentary Chevolution, which was inspired by the V&A exhibition. Ziff speaks at UMBC's Lecture Hall II Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. Visit umbc.edu/newsevents/arts/calendar for more information.
